About Rogue Beers
Rogue Brewery was founded in 1988 in Ashland, Oregon by current CEO Jack Joyce. Rogue is an interesting craft brewery because of they are present in some many locations and make beer and spirits. Rogue’s most praised beers are their stouts – check out their Imperial Stout and Chocolate Stout! Where most breweries only have one flagship brewing facility, Rogue has 13 different locations across the West coast (including one in San Francisco!) Their beers are widely distributed (BevMo, Whole Foods, Safeway, Liquor Stores) and their labels are very distinguishable.
Before taking my first sip, I notice a sweet aroma of malt and fruity hops. The color of the beer is magnificent amber. At first sip, the front of my tongue picks up the tingly carbonation and the sweet malty flavor. The beer feels smooth and is not very sharp. The red ale’s characteristics become apparent immediately and are quite enjoyable. However, after finishing my sip, the sweet malty flavor is washed away with an odd bitterness and a slight metallic after taste. This leaves a very bitter taste on my palate encouraging me to quickly take another sip to refresh my taste buds with the initial sweet and malty flavors. This process continues – refreshing sweet flavor; bitter and metallic aftertaste.
If you can handle a bitter aftertaste in your beers and want to avoid a lot of hops, this red ale is for you. Even if you can’t handle the after taste of this beer, buy it at least for the awesome Santa drinking beer on the label.
Congrats on making it to day 6 of our series! This also means that there are only 6 more days left until Christmas day. Let us know what beers you would want for Christmas by connecting with BrewTours on Facebook and Twitter.
